Praise for The National Theatre Story

"The National Theatre Story is the best book on theatre that has been published in living memory." – British Theatre Guide

"The story of the National Theatre is as packed with drama as anything it has staged… Covering 50 years during which the National has staged 800 or so shows, it can’t help but prompt vivid memories in theatre-going readers.” – Sunday Times

"This weighty tome is the definitive history, synthesising many of the previous works, incorporating extensive new interview material with privileged access to directors' files, administrative records, board papers and the restricted holdings in the NT Archive…. This is a story with guts, great actors, laughter, disaster, and other properties that most books don't possess." – The Independent

"[A] mighty tome... Rosenthal documents with precision and style." – Daily Herald, Scotland

"This meticulously researched book… provides a uniquely revealing story of life within a great cultural institution." – The Spectator

Illustrated Talks on NT History

Daniel has given illustrated talks on the history of the NT at the National’s Clore Learning Centre, at Chichester Festival Theatre, and at several schools across England. St Albans School’s Head of General Studies said:

“Your NT presentation to the Upper 6th was well received, and underlined the many challenges that the National Theatre has overcome throughout its existence. The blend of video clips and your subject expertise held the students’ attention and encouraged them to consider the important contribution of the NT to the arts, and the wider implications of cuts to arts funding. I have heard plenty of positive feedback from the pupils.”
